A wooden house under construction with visible framework, stairs, and windows, surrounded by trees.

Pete Ditchfield

I have an uncompromising approach to timber sourcing and know the origin of every tree I use. I exclusively use local and sustainably sourced timber. I am part of a great community of foresters and sawyers, so am able to source a wide range of beautiful wood, direct from the woodlands where it was grown.

I apprenticed under Tim Gatfield at the Cherry Wood Project in South Gloucestershire, learning traditional chair making, timber framing and woodland management. Since 2013 I have been based on a farm in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, working in the woods and in my workshop to hone a broad range of timber conversion and traditional carpentry skills, and developing an extensive understanding of tree species and timber properties.

I am passionate about traditional hand tool carpentry and vernacular building. Every item or structure that I create is unique and made to order. I love unusual and challenging commissions, so get in touch to discuss your project.

I am a green woodworker and timber framer, specialising in using wood’s natural grain and curves to produce pieces which reflect the strength and beauty of the tree.
